Langdale Chase was built n 1890 by Mrs Howarth, the widow of a wealthy businessman, and building work took five years to complete. It is built in Brathay Blue stone, and has the proud distinction of being the first house in Windermere to have electricity. Mrs Howarth resided here between 1894 and 1914, with a staff of sixteen.
After her death, a collector called Mr Willows and his wife bought the property, and brought with them treasures including fine old oak, paintings, and china plates that are still displayed in the Baronial Hall today.
Langdale Chase was first opened as a Hotel at Easter 1930. The Hotel boasts five acres of landscaped gardens which slope to the shores of the lake, a Boat House bedroom with two adjacent jetties, and a lakeside gazebo.
In recent years the Hotel has won the coveted awards of Hotel of the Year, Hotel of the Year, Best View of Britain. The house is listed as one of national and historic interest.

With stunning and exclusive panoramic views of Lake Windermere, this beautiful country house is set right on the lake’s shore. Guests can enjoy afternoon tea on the stone terrace overlooking Windermere.

The elegant and individually furnished bedrooms at Langdale Chase Hotel all include garden views and a private bathroom, while most also enjoy fantastic lake views. Rooms also feature a flat-screen TV and free tea and coffee.

The AA Rosette-winning restaurant at Langdale Chase serves a table d’hote dinner menu amongst panoramic lake views. Lunches are available on the lovely garden terraces and balconies.

With its very own jetty, Langdale Chase can provide sailing days and lessons on the lake. Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain, is a 1.5-hour drive from the hotel. Windermere town and rail station are a 5-minute drive away.
