Originally opened on May 19th, 1924 as "The Texan", at 10 stories high it was the tallest building in Austin at the time. Due to its stately nature, local activists immediately lobbied to memorialize beloved statesman and Father of Texas successfully changing the name of the hotel to "The Stephen F. Austin."
Over the years the hotel has been a local hangout for politicians, served as campaign headquarters for multiple governors, and has been graced by the presence of many celebrities. We may no longer be the tallest building in Austin but we have not lost any of our classic charm or signature character.
Only steps from Austin's State Capitol building and within walking distance of other attractions, this hotel features spacious guestrooms furnished with coffeemakers and knowledgeable on-site concierge services.
The Stephen F Austin Royal Sonesta Hotel is only minutes from the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. The University of Texas and scenic Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail are also easily accessible.
While staying at The Stephen F Austin Royal Sonesta Hotel, guests can enjoy 24-hour fitness facilities, complete with an indoor pool. The hotel also features on-site dining at the Roaring Fork, which is open for lunch and dinner.
